Rediscovering the magic of the accordion

Martynas Levickis & Friends
Martynas Levickis  Accordion

Works by Astor Piazzolla (1921 - 1992), Karl Jenkins (*1944), Martynas Levickis (*1990) and others

The accordion is a relatively recent instrument, which makes for the appeal it has to musicians to this day, given its expressive potential. Accordion music should be “minimalistic but powerful, with impressive texture, complex rhythms, levitating melodies and soulful harmony,” says Martynas Levickis. His programme features composers who, like Astor Piazzolla and Karl Jenkins, reconcile different cultures and traditions such as jazz, classical and traditional music. This approach is also tangible in his own treatment of the Lithuanian folk songs he’s going to present at Choriner Musiksommer.
