Bagpipes and kilts
The Berlin Pipe Company
Gunther Haußknecht ∙ pipe major
Traditional Scottish standards, original compositions and adaptations of pieces from Ireland, Canada, the USA and Brittany as well as arrangements of non-traditional pieces and polyphonic compositions.
Bagpipe sounds in the monastery, that’s something never been heard before in Chorin – a novelty after sixty years of classical sounds, and quite a sensational one at that. Berlin Pipe Company, the oldest and largest bagpipe band in Berlin and Brandenburg, will take care of this. They were founded in 1983, when Gunther Haußknecht began teaching bagpipe to students at Berlin Schöneberg Music School. He proved an accomplished teacher of the instrument which he has himself been learning since 1978 from various Berlin-based Scottish regiments and their pipe majors and whose special and demanding playing techniques he has mastered for a long time. He now has a huge repertoire and corresponding experience to provide his twenty band members with. You may be in for a surprise when their Scotch on the Rocks trickles into the glass or the Last Rose of Summer blooms.
