Zygmunt Noskowski (1846 – 1909)  The Steppe Symphonic Poem op. 66 (1896)

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756 – 1791)  Violin Concerto in A major KV 219 (1775)
Robert Schumann (1810 – 1856)  Symphony No. 4 in D minor op. 120 (1841, rev. 1851)

In the 19th century, Zygmunt Noskowski was one of the leading composers of Warsaw’s musical scene. He moulded his symphonic compositions to embody what he called the ‘spirit of Polish music’, and this also applies to The Steppe. Centre stage in this concert is the 16-year-old soloist Mariam Abouzahra, who has already convinced many audiences of her exceptional talent and virtuosity. She will unfold her skills on Mozart’s A major concerto, the most demanding, melodically catchy and richest in instrumentation among the composer’s five violin concertos. With four movements blending into each other without rest, Mozart cast a web of thematic and harmonic connections over the whole piece.
