To associate the initials of their name with those of the legendary abbreviation BWV for the catalog of Bach works published by Wolfgang Schmieder was a great idea from the Salzburg BachWerkVokal group, and so has been their intention, since they were founded by Gordon Safari in 2015, to strive for a historically informed performance practice of Johann Sebastian Bach’s vocal works. Outstanding musicians from all over Europe (7 singers who act as soloists and as a choir as well as 15 instrumentalists) have formed an ensemble which, with their creative programmatic ideas and historically inspired performances, does emphasise the joy that lies in “unheard-of” interpretations. Critics attest thema “fascinating unity and intensity”, “amazing freshness” and “gorgeously transparent vocal lines in the chorales”. Let’s wish them a hearty “Good luck” for their Chorin debut.
