Edvard Grieg (1843 – 1907) • Peer Gynt Incidental Music op. 23
Peer Gynt’s story is that of a young man who went forth to find his self. Coming from a village in the Norwegian mountains, he is part dreamer and romancer, part adventurer – and a liar who recklessly makes up a life with the sole vision of getting rich and important. That’s his reason for leaving home and taking on all his adventures.
Our performance takes young and old along on Peer Gynt’s musical trip into a world between dreams and reality. But be aware that beyond the crazy ways of Peer’s and the realms of trolls and fairies, there is a profound theme of how we cherish memories and search for a home, of longing and growing up.
